How does HIV Partner Notification Services work?

With your consent, Partner Notification Services will help you to notify your partner(s) who may have been exposed to HIV. Confidentiality is maintained throughout the process. The goal of our trained health professionals is to help curb the spread of HIV and to help infected people get into care. No one is going to judge you or your partner.

There are three ways to do it:

  1. Tell your partner yourself. There are many things to consider. The counselor can advise you and coach you about how to tell your partner.

  2. Tell your partner with a counselor present. It might be helpful to have someone with you to answer questions and concerns.

  3. A counselor can contact your partner for you without disclosing your name. We give NO INFORMATION about you. An HIV professional can provide your partner with options and information on testing and HIV disease.

If your partner comes to the AVRC (Antiviral Research Center) for early testing, we will NEVER disclose your status to your partner or your partner’s status to you.
