The Early Test generally consists of TWO types of tests: You will first get a Rapid HIV antibody test. This is usually done with an oral swab. You will have those results in 20 minutes.
- If you test negative on the Rapid antibody test, you will then have blood taken for an HIV viral test– a test that looks directly for the virus, not the antibody.
- If you test preliminary positive on the Rapid HIV Antibody Test, you will have blood taken, to confirm the HIV infection and another test to see if this is a recent infection.
